A Note from Gwyn
And just like that, it is December! I’m not sure I have ever had a busier year that has gone by in such a flash as this one has. I hope that all of you had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday and spent it with the ones you love and that all the calories were removed from all your favorite dishes!
As this year begins to wind down, your association is very busy mapping out the best plan for the future. The LATN Exploratory Committee is busy conducting interviews from the many resumes we received for our Executive Director position. We have been thrilled with the high number of quality applicants that have expressed their interest and we hope to make a decision sometime this month. We are also busy with our 2025 invoice billing. Expect to see those this month and as always, reach out if you have any questions.

At our annual meeting on October 28th, the membership voted in two new board of directors, Tim Buist and Rick Borofski. The Governance Committee spends a great deal of time meeting with potential new board members and I believe the addition of Tim and Rick makes our great team even greater. Read more about them here.
I can truly say I believe 2025 will be one of our very best years and I look forward to telling you more about the great things going on in the near future. Until then, I hope your communities and businesses enjoy every minute of this month full of festivities and events. There’s just something about this season that makes everything merry and bright! Enjoy it all!

LeadingAge Lawsuit Update: Advocates File Friend of the Court Briefs in Support of CMS Rule. On November 25, advocates filed two friend-of-the-court briefs in support of the cross-motion for summary judgment, filed November 18 by the Department of Justice on behalf of HHS and CMS, arguing that the nursing home minimum staffing rule should be upheld. The first was filed by SEIU, and the second by a group consisting of AARP, AARP Foundation, American Nurses Association, California Advocates For Nursing Home Reform, the Center For Medicare Advocacy, The Long Term Care Community Coalition, Justice In Aging, and the National Consumer Voice For Quality Long-Term Care. Links to these filings are available in our Nursing Home Staffing Mandates serial post.

New YIMBY Caucus. On November 20, a bipartisan group of House members established a new “Yes In My Back Yard” (YIMBY) Caucus to promote policies that encourage new housing development in order to tackle the nationwide affordable housing and homelessness crisis. The caucus will serve as an “ideas factory” to address the severe shortage of affordable housing at the federal level and will also work to convene conversations with local and state leaders who also determine housing policy. LeadingAge looks forward to working with the caucus on our shared goals to preserve, expand, and improve the supply of affordable housing. Read more here.
